How do I get involved in CCM?

The question I am most frequently asked is, "How do I get involved in CCM?" Usually if someone is asking me in person they already ARE involved and just don't realize it! But for all of you who may be wondering how exactly you do get involved the answer is simple:

1. Go to Mass at the Cathedral. How easy is that? If you are a VCU Student, Faculty, or Staff Member and you are currently attending any of the four weekend Masses at the Cathedral (Sat. 5:15pm, Sun. 9am, 11am, or 5:15pm) we already consider you involved! There is nothing more important than joining the worshipping community, and if you are doing that, then consider yourself a member of Catholic Campus Ministry.

2. Attend an event. Find out what is going on by checking here, here, or here. Then come to anything that sounds interesting. All you have to do is show up. Or

3. Hang out at the House. The CCM House is located across the street from Shafer Dining Hall and the Cabell Library. Literally in the center of campus sits a house given over to be used by students for studying, relaxing, and working on ministry projects. Whenever the Big Brown Doors are open (which is usually from 10am-Midnight, Monday-Friday) come on in.

4. Take on a project and run with it. Campus Ministry is really so much more than just Mass and playing pool at the house though. It is about getting people together to make our university, our city, and our world a bettter place. From feeding the homeless to spending Spring Break in rural West Virginia to organizing a retreat to putting on a Speaker Series like Theology on Tap the possibilities are endless. So if there is something that you want to do let me know, or let one of the Peer Ministers know and they would be happy to help you out. Getting involved at this level is as simple as having an idea. The job of the Peer Ministers and CCM Interns is to help you be successful.

5. Apply for a Servant Leadership position. From having a Cathedral Pastoral Council Representative to having a coordinator of Alternative Spring Breaks to being a Small Faith Sharing Group Leader there are countless positions available for those who want to step up and serve the Catholic Campus Ministry community here at VCU. If you are interested in learning more about these roles please send me an email and check back here often for current leadership opportunities.

So I hope this helps answer the question of how to get involved. You pick your level of commitment and involvement and remember that you are just as important to us if you only attend one event as if you attend them all. All are welcome.
